I offer services in writing, editing, and indexing. Because so much of my work is done over the Internet, I'm very comfortable with writing and editing in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat PDFs. For editing, I use the track changes feature of Microsoft Word which allows the client to see my edits and keep track of changes. Electronic editing over the Internet via email is a very effective way to maintain contact with clients, get projects returned in a timely manner, and keep track of jobs. But if you prefer hardcopy, we can use fax or the regular mail.

Writing: I write articles, reports, advertising (copywriting), Web content, proposals, company reports, grants, business plans, speeches, resumes, newsletters, training manuals, cover letters, presentations, histories, biographies, technical documentation, fiction, non-fiction, and just about anything else. As Samuel Johnson once said, "The best way to learn about something is to write about it."

Editing: I offer three levels of copyediting:

Light copyediting means that I correct mistakes in spelling, grammar, usage, and punctuation. This level of copyediting is sometimes generally called proofreading, although I also offer galley proofreading services.

Medium copyediting includes light copyediting, plus I might rewrite sentences and move paragraphs. I also check for logical flaws in arguments or plots, cross-check bibliographic references and footnotes, check permissions if necessary, and edit tables and artwork.

Heavy copyediting includes medium copyediting, plus what is sometimes referred to as developmental editing. I work with you throughout the writing process, do some rewriting, and ensure that the work is coherent, correct, and complete.

Indexing: After a manuscript has been set, some authors or publishers need an index in order to provide a condensed overview of a book or project that allows the reader to easily go to a specific page. I offer keyword indexing as part of my services.
